Moonlight on Android

For the past week, the Moonlight team has been busy porting Moonlight to Android devices and today, showed it off at Mix 11.

The video shows Moonlight running on both a Motorola Xoom tablet and a Nexus S phone.

Keep in mind that we're still in the early phases of porting and there's still a lot of work left to do before we can ship a product, but it's still exciting!

Update: Now you can see Moonlight rendering video with 3D transforms, too!

    Moonlight is just a platform and in this video it was demoing a Silverlight application (which was a demo vector animation).

    I'm noob in c# so I bought appdev video training courses.
    And they guy(forget his name) said that MS developed a version of Silverlight for linux. I know this B.S but someone needs to correct him.

    angelus: Your friend is probably thinking of the Linux port of Silverlight that Microsoft contracted out to Intel to do for MeeGo, but which never was done (as far as I know).

    Andrew:

    I'm unable to provide any sort of timeline at the moment as I don't think any of us actually have any idea.

    I would imagine not until after we manage to release Moonlight 4.0 simply due to the fact that that is our main priority right now.

    Most of what is needed to get something up and running on Android is already in git or will be by tomorrow.

    Chris Toshok is working on finishing up a replacement for GKeyFile (no glib on Android) and I'm working on a replacement to libiconv - both of which should land tomorrow.

    Of course, that will only get you as far as we got our demo at MIX (which did not support audio, for example).

    Yes, I think at some point we'll probably see Moonlight on ChromeOS. The question is a matter of when ;-)

    Unfortunately there's no update. We've been so focused on fixing bugs and implementing new features for MonoTouch and Mono for Android we just haven't had time to look at Moonlight anymore.

    What is the status on development for an app for that market. I currently have a high need for silverlight at work and would love to have the ability to say android can joining the working list of devices.

    Hi Gh0stRyd3r,

    Unfortunately the Novell layoffs of all Mono employees has basically put the project to an end.

    The source code is all still open source and all of the work done to port Moonlight to Android is in public git on github (afaik), it's incomplete and unlikely to see any activity for the foreseeable future :-(
